Reviewer CME Credits and Accreditation

Journal Reviewer Program

The Journal of Pediatric Urology Manuscript Review is a comprehensive learning activity developed by a team of educators, academicians and clinicians. The clinical review of manuscripts being considered for publication in The Journal of Pediatric Urology provides another format of learning for clinical reviewers and ensures that the highest standards for evidence-based clinical content are met.

Program Objectives

After completing this manuscript review, reviewers will be able to:

• Analyze the manuscript and other background material as required toward increased knowledge of the subject matter.
• Recognize opportunities to apply this increased knowledge of the subject matter in clinical practice.
• Appraise the manuscript for sound, evidence-based scientific principles that are generally accepted as valid by the medical profession.

Accreditation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and The Journal of Pediatric Urology®. The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education.

Credit Designation

The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University designates this live activity for a maximum of 15.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
(Note: an individual reviewer may earn up to 3 credits per review and may earn a maximum of 15 credits per year for their reviews.)

Other Learners

The Warren Alpert Medical School is not accredited to offer credit to participants who are not MDs or DOs. However, reviewers can receive documentation of participation that states that the activity was certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

Medium and Method of Participation for Credit

1. The review of the manuscript will be graded on a scale of "1" to "5" with "1" being the best possible grade. Only reviews graded "1," "2," or "3" will be eligible for credit.
2. The editor of The Journal of Urology® will assess the Manuscript Review Request for CME credit form, and approve or disapprove the request for credit.
3. Manuscript Review Credits are limited to (5) five reviews or (15) fifteen AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ per year.
4. Credits are awarded quarterly - once you have registered for an account at cme-learning.brown.edu any credits you have accrued and claimed from reviewer activity will be added to your account every three months.

Disclosure Policy

All persons in a position to control the content of an educational activity (i.e., activity planners, presenters, authors) provided by the AUA are required to disclose to the provider any relevant financial relationships with any commercial interest. The AUA must determine if the individual's relationships may influence the educational content and resolve any conflicts of interest prior to the commencement of the educational activity. The intent of this disclosure is not to prevent individuals with relevant financial relationships from participating, but rather to provide learners information with which they can make their own judgments.

Resolution of Identified Conflict of Interest

All disclosures will be reviewed by the program/course directors or editors for identification of conflicts of interest. Peer reviewers, working with the program directors and/or editors, will document the mechanism(s) for management and resolution of the conflict of interest and final approval of the activity will be documented prior to implementation. Any of the mechanisms below can/will be used to resolve conflict of interest:

• Peer review for valid, evidence-based content of all materials associated with an educational activity by the course/program director, editor, and/or Conflict of Interest Review Work group or its subgroup.
• Limit content to evidence with no recommendations
• Introduction of a debate format with an unbiased moderator (point-counterpoint)
• Inclusion of moderated panel discussion
• Publication of a parallel or rebuttal article for an article that is felt to be biased
• Limit equipment representatives to providing logistics and operation support only in procedural demonstrations
• Divestiture of the relationship by faculty
