It is with great fortune that we present both the 36th and 37th American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Urology Medal recipients. In an unprecedented
event due to multiple meeting cancellations during the COVID pandemic, both recipients
were presented their medals at the Pediatric Urology Fall Congress held in Miami 2021.
Befittingly, the two recipients David Bloom and Tony Caldamone paths crossed early
in their careers as they both were “loaned” to Philip Ransley at Great Ormond Street
in a time of need. This helped foster an important relationship with the British contingent
that was strengthened over the next three decades in part due to the high caliber
of “loaners” such as David and Tony as well as others that followed a similar path.
David Bloom was presented by Julian Wan and John Park, and Tony Caldamone was presented
by Marc Cendron and David Diamond. Surrounded by family, friends, mentees and colleagues
both graciously and humbly accepted their award to a standing ovations.
